That Obscure Object Of Desire

2008 June 7

Desire is very powerful word and also one of the strongest emotions. I would like to say the only driven force of human as I believe in this conception. This movie is kind of affirmative analysis of the previous statement. It talks about an old age lover of a young age girl. The rich man asks poor girl to be with him as he loves her. And the poor girl asks him to love her but no physical contact as for her it’s not essential. She says ‘even I love you but I don’t feel making love with you then why you want this.’

Story moves around the two (well around three- actually LUES BUNUEL has experimented in this film; he has taken two actress for the same part. Yes, one for the good lady one for the bad lady. And its quiet visible. He has done no effort to bring any likeness between them. But you have to keep an eye as in the pace of story you may fail to spot this interesting fact.). Man found it difficult to live without her. He wants her badly. He does everything – buys her a home, offers money, asks for marriage. But every time the girl denied giving herself as she says ‘if I will give myself to you, you won’t love me any longer.’

The more she keeps him away, the more his desire becomes obscure to him. He failed to understand either himself or her. Although movie wasn’t a box office hit but of course a critic’s beloved due to its obscure theme. And it will remain one of the best movies of all time.
